Livestock-Based Livelihoods - Poultry and Goatery-Based Improvement
The Bhil community in poultry and goat farming, along with Sampark, has revitalized livestock-based livelihoods in 333 villages, supporting over 40,000 families. By promoting more than 500 indigenous goat and poultry varieties, Sampark strengthens local breeds, enhancing both food security and income stability. A network of 120 para vets, called Sakhis and Mitr, provides vital animal care services, from vaccinations to health management, empowering community members with practical knowledge. A Poultry & Goat Rearing Guide Book has been prepared that provides information to members of PEG, HHs, Pash Sakhi about ways to keep the cattle, cattle feed, cattle health, marketing, benefits from cattle rearing etc and has been distributed among the cattle owners.
Sampark has revived backyard poultry farming of the Kadaknath breed, historically resilient but vulnerable to diseases like Ranikhet. To reduce high mortality rates, Sampark introduced systematic feeding and regular vaccinations, helping 1,720 families in 10 villages transform poultry into a viable, dependable livelihood. Through 1,000 health camps, over 22,000 livestock have received medical attention, with local barefoot veterinarians applying traditional knowledge alongside modern techniques. The approach has doubled the number of livestock, creating a sustainable and enriched livelihood source for families deeply connected to their land and livestock heritage.
